   Sorry, but I have seen that Plastic Whale logo on several other blogs and I just totally fail to see what’s so great about it. The others are all mostly very clever. But is the whale supposed to.. look like plastic or something? Because first of all, it doesn’t. Second, why would a plastic-looking whale be a brilliant mark for a company called Plastic Whale. What’s up with the yellow/green? Is that supposed to mean plastic somehow? What the heck am I missing here, if anything?!

   @bmackler, Thanks, and I apologize for sounding rude. Its just that I’ve seen this thing everywhere now and I was baffled as to how its up to par with the others.. I wonder if Plastic Whale is a real company. I found absolutely nothing online about its actual existence.

   @Jessica, Nope not rude at all. a very fair question. After posting it, I saw it in more places as well. I think what makes it on par with the others is the uniqueness of style and the depth of color/gradients. I dont think its a real company, just a mock up that someone made…Perhaps in retrospect there may be others that are better suited to be on the list, but as I said before, there was just something about it that struck me…

    almost none of these logos were done for an actual company and are being used now. This is all spec work. One of the hardest parts of design is getting the logo past the clients and approved. I’ll start posting all of my rejected work now too.

    @kelly, yes most of these are spec work but it doesnt change the fact that they are still great. I would love to see what they approved. some of my favorite work is stuff that was not approved. gotta love clients
