Minimalism has been a very popular website design style for a while now. Some people say it is simply boring and uninteresting because all of the “eye candy” and effects have been removed… I think it is a classy and functional design style that showcases strong typography, good design and layout skills.
Simply put, the goal of minimalist design is to remove any unnecessary elements that distracts from the overall message and just focus on simplicity.
For your design inspiration, here are 40 of the best minimalist websites for you to enjoy.

We went for a minimalist approach on our site, stripping out everything unnecessary and focussing on what we felt to be important. Some of the sites in this list don’t go far enough in my opinion, but what do I know? Exactly.

These site designs epitomize, for me, the sacrifice of message and purpose for aesthetics. Very attractive. Very ineffective.

@Bob Aronin, I understand your complaint, but I think these sites really try to balance form and function. Yes, some better than others but it helps project an image of being streamlined, fast and modern. not weighed down….

Minimalist design is a fantastic approach. It requires the use of fonts as a design itself with a clean layout and only a small number of clean, if bold, images. Tampa Web Design http://www.tgwebmedia.com

Excellent blog post! I have a very useful tip for your readers…
When designing minimalist websites, it is best to try to avoid dark or black/ grey backgrounds. WHY? Well, with modern PCs and Macs (and iPhones) having glossy or glass screens, dust, fingerprints, and glare is highly visible when dark backgrounds are used, and this spoils the overall user experience.
Professional companies like teNriA, Apple, Dior or Calvin Klein all use white/ light colours–e.g. http://www.teNriA.com | http://www.Apple.com | http://www.Dior.com | http://www.CK.com because they look clean and hide screen glare, fingerprints, dust and dirt.
Thanks for such an inspirational blog post!
