Modals are facilitating the return of pop-up ads, though people are trying to be sneaky about it by putting site-oriented stuff like mailing-list signups on them. Not always, though. I’ve started adding Lightbox elements to AdBlock in response to onload() BS from these sites, but I yearn for a better way. I don’t think this distaste of mine is mere nostalgia, BTW.
