Today we will be reviewing the top 15 hotels and resorts websites worldwide. Among the list are some of the most expensive in the world, costing over $20,000 a night! It won’t be hard to see why these sites are an amazing source of inspiration. They follow alot of the trends we have discussed before that contribute to wonderful designs; including clean lines, large pictures that pull you in and clean navigation taking you where you need to go. Don’t be mistaken, these sites aren’t just inspiration for the luxury hotel and resort industry, but any genre in which you want to show high class and design precision.

Great insight. The Peninsula is the “grande dame” of Hong Kong hotels. Style, sophistication and luxury for the most discriminating guest. I am always confident to send my clients, be it for business or pleasure, to this amazing property.

The Peninsula looks nice… until you try to USE it. haha. this thing has terrible usability.
1) everything takes forever to load
2) mouse over Accomodation, then the one right after. go back to accomodation and it jumps to the one after
3) the dropdowns of the main menus items are in conflict with the highlighting of the large image links underneath them. any good flash developer would limit the mouse over area to only activate below the area of the dropdown
4) actually try to reserve a room. it will have a preloader for the peninsula which does nothing, then a SECOND preloader for reservations, then, unbelievable a THIRD preloader in the form of the clock which takes forever. then you can finally get into reservation part, which I assume is the most critical gateway.
maybe it looks nice, but the IA, usability and flash coding are atrociious

Notice that the one common theme in all these resort website designs, is that they all use very large images to showcase the resorts.
